Australia Day Menu 2011

Saturday 15 Jan 5:30 pmtoSunday 16 Jan 12:00 am

On Sat January 15, The Palmy is presenting one of the finest collection of young sunshine coast musicians, a young man taking his considerable talents to the worlds stages and a man whos been rivetting Australian music fans since his arrival post Vietnam war back in the 70’s

Kicking off the evening, Young guns Apollo In Peril(No Problem) take to the stage with newest member, vocalist Teila Packman on board for the first time at Palmwoods. The last 12 months have seen these mega talented youngsters playing gigs all over the SE Qld and having them back at Palmwoods is long overdue

Up next, Claude Hay fuses slide guitar, sitar, bass and electronic percussion in a loop-driven performance that invokes the best of stomping traditional blues with a booty-shaking funk edge.

In 2007, his independently released debut album Kiss The Sky was the ticket he needed to perform at venues and festivals all over the world, including in the UK, Europe and the US. His new release, Deep Fried Satisfied, showcases Claude as the ultimate DIY musician, honing his craft with hook-laden songwriting and undeniable talent.

This album is chock full of Muddy Waters-inspired, slide driven blues riffs and P-Funk style choruses and breakdowns. Claude’s particular affection to New York style pizza is the inspiration for Get Me Some, which follows the success of How Can You Live With Yourself, a head-bobbing blues tune that Australian’s pushed to #1 on nationwide radio station JJJ’s Unearthed.

And then Wiley Reed, veteran singer, piano player and band leader makes his overdue Palmwoods debut. Wiley arrived in Brisbane back in the early 70’s after completing his time in Vietnam. He’s since been at the forefront of the Australian blues scene nationwide. Wileys mastery of classic blues has seen him invited to the biggest and best blues festivals across the country and his first ever Palmwoods show should definitely be on everybody’s calendar as a “Not To Be Missed” event
