“The voice of the show”….

This experienced Cabaret performer began his career at the tender age of 15, whilst performing with his first band at a high school dance.  His love of song writing also took shape around that time, and since then he has recorded several independent albums.  In 1989 he appeared on “New Faces” hosted by Daryl Somers, where he sang an original composition, receiving rave reviews from both judges and audience alike, which also won him the “Ricky May Award”. James also appeared on “The Good Morning Show” with John Mangos in the early 1990’s, once again singing an original composition.  In 1998 James starred in the “Johnny O’Keefe Tribute Show”, which toured Australia and New Zealand from 1998 to 2000. He has also supported such well known acts as Dragon, Joe Camilleri, The Cockroaches and blues guitar legend Kevin Borich, to name a few. James’ extensive cover repertoire has included such diverse styles, from Tom Jones and Don McLean, to Robbie Williams and Bernard Fanning.  His starring role in “The Neil Diamond Travellin’ Tribute Show” once again allows him to showcase his amazing vocal talents.

Phil Roach

Phil was brought up in a family of musicians and by the age of 7, he already mimicked the playing styles of his favourite performers, like Paul McCartney and Jimmy Hendrix.During primary and high school Phil played in musicals, stage band and wind ensemble performances all over Queensland.Intensive music and bass lessons refined his technique further … and his music teacher, being deeply impressed by his rare talent and skill, invited Phil to join his band. By the time Phil was 15, he was already playing professional gigs in pubs and clubs.Phil has been driven all his life by a burning passion and his deep sense of commitment, combined with an outstanding talent makes him today an irreplaceable member of The Neil Diamond Travellin’ Tribute Show. There is no doubting, Phil’s undeniable talent and enthusiasm, has earned him the reputation of being a world class bass guitarist …

On Saturday Feb 20th when Palmwoods has got the blues rolls back the covers, the richter scale will be registering on the high side of OMG!!

mojo-portrait-300

One of Palmwoods’ stars MOJO WEBB usually brings his crack band along for the ride but on the 20th it’s a rare opportunity for blues fans to catch Mojo in his even heaviers solo mode.  Armed with just a guitar and harmonica, Mojo’s acknowledged mastery of all styles of blues is never more evident than when its just the man and his music.

Up next, SWAMPHOUSE are making the long drive up from Sydney to play Palmwoods.  With over 65 years of collective experience amongst them, playing with James T & The Last Volunteers, The King Bees and the Cyril B Bunter Band, their dance heavy mix of boogie and blues is NOT to be missed!!

And then the whole thing comes to a head when MASON RACK returns to take the stage where so many of his greatest performances have taken place.

Well maybe that’s incorrect and maybe it’s that so many of the Palmwoods Hotel’s greatest nights have been with Mason Rack on stage.  Either way, with the young man from the Gold Coast on stage with his trusty lap slide in hand and crack band in the pocket, being a dancing fool is no longer a crime.  And as a bonus, Mason will be selling copies of his new dbl live album after the show!!

On Sat Feb 6th The Delta Monarchs take the stage for the first chance for many music fans to see one of the highlights of the recent Woodford Folk Festival.  With a foot in the blues and at least a couple of toes dangling in the rock and reggae pools, the Monarchs rocked Woodford to its foundations and their high energy show will do the same at Palmwoods in February.

Palmwoods Got The Blues returns on  Sat Jan 16Josh Band 028 L1

First call sideman JB Lewis opens the show playing his gutbucket prewar blues.  JB’s a regular on the Palmwoods stage playing bass or guitar  with Mojo Webb, Pete Cornelius, Geoff Achison and many of the touring acts that come through. He’s also a top notch singer and fans of real blues should be there early for this musician’s musician.

Corrina Steel

Corrina Steel is primarily known as a country singer but after spending time Mississippi in the last year, Corrina’s third release“Fling With The King” features a darker bluesier sensibility than she’s displayed on her previous albums. Couple that with her RL Burnside inspired slide guitar playing and roadhardened band and the house will be rockin’ for this talented lady and her band.

Hipshooters

Since they arrived in Australia from New Zealand, the Hipshooters have been widely acknowledged as Australias premier exponents of the hard edged texas blues immortalized by the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan. A headliner at every festival they play, if there’s been a tighter band to play the Palmwoods stage, its only because frontman and guitar slinger extaordinaire Anton Tipi Elkington spends his working week teaching at home across the ditch. Rest assured though, the Hipshooters will blow the roof of the place just like they did they last time they visited. And the time before that!

2009 was a great year for the Palmwoods hotel and its roster of blues artists. Crowds were up, the bands were firing and the beer couldn’t have been any colder.

2010 kicks off with a couple of the pubs most popular artists and one on the verge of international acclaim.

After a year of overseas travel and hundreds of gigs, Mason Rack’s return to Palmwoods on Sat Jan 2 will set the standard for every musician that follows his path through the pubs soundproofed doors. This young man has electrified audiences with his Weissenborn guitar and deep dark vocal vibrations since he hit the Australian blues scene 4 yrs ago.  As an added bonus, its hoped that he’ll be selling copies of his latest release “Live In Canada” currently in post productionMason Rack.

It’s a helluva way to begin the year!!
